Hope for a happy New Year!
Well, another Christmas has bitten the dust! It went well, the presents were opened, appriciated and enjoyed with gratitude, as friends and family benevolently descended upon us, and enjoyed good food, good drinks, and good times , but the best thing of all for me was to discover that I am not alone.
What do I mean by this?
Do you recall in the film ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’, how the guy knows that he knows something, but doesn’t quite know what it is he does actually know? In his heart of hearts he just knew that something big was afoot. All his friends and neighbours ridiculed him because they thought that he had ‘lost it’, it even cost him his family, but he just had to follow his heart-knowing that he was right. And so it was eventually proved that he was not the only one, there were so many others who shared his conviction.
Well folks, over this Christmas holiday I too felt myself totally vindicated. For years I have been trying to spread the word that the world is in desperate need of change. That we are at the mercy of venal, self-serving leaders, and a corrupt monetary system. I have, in the face of harsh argument and ridicule, been trying to say that if we don’t disentangle ourselves from the grip of this age old, and crumbling system, we have no future at all. “No. You are wrong!” they’d insist. “You cannot do it!” they would urge. “Without money life would be very short, and very brutal!”, “How would you get anyone to do any work?”. “It’s just communism-been there, done that-didn’t work!”, “Fuck off!!”. Just some of the ignorant, ill thought out, knee-jerk replies to what I could see as obvious.
I have even written my first novel-’Windfall of the Wise’, which will be published in the new year. In it I try to illustrate how good life could be if we got rid of governments and money. All the while, I thought that I was the only one.
Then over Christmas a friend introduced me to the ‘Zeitgeist Movie’, and its sequel, ‘Zeitgeist Addendum’. It blew my mind! It moved me to tears, because at last I have discovered that contrary to my belief that I was the only one to think the way I do, I am not alone. It was like a breath of fresh air!
Both films are two hours long, and you may think that four hours in front of the screen is a little too much, but consider this point; how much time do you spend playing computer games? Or watching endless, mind numbing soap operas and trivial reality T.V.? These are the ‘entertainment’ prescribed for you by a system that wants you to remain unquestioning, uncritical, and docile. Investing four hours of your time in something that is so fundamentally good for humanity, and the planet itself has got to be worth it. You could even watch it in half hour segments.
If after seeing these movies, you find that you don’t agree with the message, at least they will give you food for thought. And if you do come away feeling enlightened as I did, then I urge you to join the movement, as suggested at the end of ‘Addendum’.
